The picturesque Holland Harbor Lighthouse was not available for a picture. The state of Michigan decided to close all access to any location where one could get a picture of the lighthouse ! When I approached the Michigan State Park where the lighthouse is located, I was turned away by a young man who was not very pleasant about it. I explained that I had driven over 1,200 miles on the trip just to get a picture of the lighthouse and he just shrugged and said "Too Bad". I would think the state of Michigan would be a little more understanding. After all, there must have been at least some place to walk to that one could get a picture of the lighthouse. Overall, I think that the lighthouses that are administered by the state of Michigan are very poorly represented and maintained. The privately owned lighthouses and those maintained by local historical societies are far superior in preservation and appearance and they are not so eager to take your money just to get a look at one of these national treasures.
